This is kind of a just for fun, let’s think about it post but I think there are a few possible reasons for the cover up that I haven’t seen discussed.
Is the US, or maybe even the US and other countries that have been it’s enemies, trying to buy themselves time in order to develop the technology the military would need in order to defend ourselves? We all know the theory “they don’t want to tell us that they’re hopeless against their technology” well what if the theory is that the military doesn’t want to tell THEM that they are hopeless against their technology? What if the military is just trying to buy themselves the decades they need to catch up in order to have a hope of defending themselves? It sounds ridiculous yeah but perhaps the architects of the cover up thought we could possibly buy ourselves enough time? They would probably want to try even if it was unlikely they’d succeed. It’s worth considering.
What if the NHI are communists? Obviously I’m not saying they read Marx and Lenin and they liked the idea but what if their society is a technically communist one? No money, no social classes, no individual property? No countries? Honestly it seems like that is pretty likely, no one has ever reported seeing any evidence of NHI capitalism as silly as that sounds. If cold war America discovered that a more advanced civilization is communist, they would NEVER let that information out and frankly neither would the USSR. Their version of communism was always about maintaining the power of the state and they killed many many people who advocated for a true “power to the people” system.
What if the NHI are all homosexual? What if they only have one sex? Do you realize how threatening that would have seemed to cold war society? I can imagine a bunch of 1940s people deciding that if the world found that out it would destroy moral society and everyone would become a godless heathen communist overnight yadayadayada and so they have to keep it secret.
Anyway I’m literally just spitballing for fun, I’m not saying I believe any of these things (except maybe the communist one, I would bet that could have played a role in deciding to keep it secret)
