In July of 1952 a pair of photographic plates were take at an observatory in South Carolina. The photographs were taken 1 hour apart. In the first photo, 3 star-like objects can be clearly seen. In the next photo, the three objects are completely gone with no practical explanation.
Can someone with a background in astrophysics explain what could possibly have happened? In this particular case, what is the best fit hypothesis?
