Encounters on Netflix (Episode 2) Discussion

You know. I’ve always believed in the Ariel school phenomenon (Ep 2). After this episode I can flat out say it’s completely bogus. And it makes me sad. The one guy explaining how he made it up as a rumor and then everyone “believed” it. It makes so much sense. Kids really do extrapolate the truth and then believe in it to follow.

When I was about 13-14 I used to hang out with the kids in my neighborhood. We were always extremely bored. There was nothing to do but run around outside and use our imaginations. Which is exactly what we did. There was about a 3 week period where we all thought we could travel to other dimensions by crossing our arms and laying down a certain way. All 4 of us did it and had experiences. But it was all bogus and just a fun way to pass the time. We did a ton of other weird shit too I probably can’t recall at this time. But IN THAT MOMENT we believed it. Even told our parents about it, and they stopped allowing us to hangout as much because they thought it was weird as fuck.

So back to the Ariel phenomenon. It’s 100% believable all these little kids just got bored with their surroundings and decided to go along with the rumor for that instant rush. Then once the newspapers and media got ahold of it. All 60 of them just went along with it for clout. I’d also bet being in their shoes, it would be humiliating to just come out and say “yea we were just joking” That honestly makes more sense to me than actual aliens landing.

Another example of this on a much smaller scale. There’s a subreddit dedicated to “jump scare fakeouts”. For example. There was one where this wife pretended to see a rat on the floor and started to jump and scream (there was no rat). In turn, the husband responded equally in tone. Jumped about 3 feet in the air and threw what was in his hand at where he assumed the rat would be. Then towards the end of the video the wife starts laughing and giggling and the husband is all like “WHAT JUST HAPPENED WHERE IS THE RAT”. And she goes “there is no rat”.

The same thing happened here.

Also if you read old interviews from these people as they grew up. Each and every one of their experiences were different from the last.

Man I’m sad now.
