If they knew what it was, we’d know by now

Just a theory: if there was any certainty, at any level, about the origins of the NHI, whether they were extraterrestrials or interdimensionals or timetravellers or cryptids or demons, we’d know by now. Certainly within the last twelve months, it would have leaked, surely? But the fact that it has stayed hidden, and that there is no single overriding narrative, and doesn’t seem like there is one emerging either then… doesn’t that imply that no one really knows what they are?
