If UFOS have been around for thousands of years, what makes people think they will contact us within the next few years?

Like the title states Allegedly UFOs are a phenomenon that have been occurring for centuries. So if that’s the case and generations have went by without contact with these NHI’s, why do people think they will contact us now?
