Beginning at about 5:25 in the linked interview with The Hill today, Michael Shellenberger makes a statement which seems to clarify something that has been causing some confusion in the forums lately. The IC IG Monheim’s reply to Burchett et al about whether or not they’re looking into the claims made by the whistleblowers seemed fairly ambiguous and left room for doubt about whether they were doing an investigation. Shellenberger stated that he has “very strong evidence” that they almost certainly ARE engaging in an investigation:
“It was a very strange letter because he had sent it to one of the congress people who had asked about the whistleblowers and Monheim said ‘Yeah there’s no audit or evaluation,’ making it sound like they weren’t looking into this. Well of course, we know, I’m 100% sure that they ARE looking into this, I have very strong evidence that they are looking into this, but they left off his letter the word ‘investigation,’ so he never said he wasn’t doing an investigation. Well that’s not just a semantic point. Investigation is a whole department of his special office, so you see that’s kind of, they’re playing some games there, and you have to kind of ask, what is it they’re covering up?”
