Why do UFOs have lights – colors, strobing, blinking etc. If someone told them (and if they cared) to just switch their lights out – they’d probably be 90% less visible to the ape men.

For that matter – why do any aircrafts have lights?:
Regulatory Compliance: ensures a standardization that helps keep everything in the air safe. Same regulations domestic and international.
Communication and Indication: Different lights and their patterns can communicate specific messages. Colors and flashing of lights can indicate the status of the aircraft (such as when it is preparing to land) and can help in identifying the aircraft type and the direction it is facing.
Collision Avoidance: Lights make the aircraft more visible to other pilots, helping to prevent accidents, especially during nighttime or in poor weather conditions. Blinking lights or strobe lights are particularly effective at drawing attention and making the aircraft’s position and movement clear from a distance.

None of these would seem to apply to aliens. I doubt they open up their rulebook when entering Earth orbit and break out the flashers so they can comply with regulation, draw attention to themselves, and flash out morse code to each other. (let’s-stop-for-peanut-butter-and-jelly-sandwiches-washed-down-with-cows-blood).

Why do UFOs use the same colors we use, does this even make sense?
I mean, these are aliens coming from a different world (?) with vastly different technology – they most probably use different electromagnetic spectra and other forms of energy emissions that do not necessarily resemble the visible light spectrum used in human technology.
Environmental Adaptations: The atmosphere in their planet or in other parts of universe could lead to developing tech solutions that are vastly different from Earth. For instance in a thick soupy atmospheric composition the most effective visible spectrum might be very different that what is used on earth.
What purpose would little (hello-i’m-here-lights) serve in the vastness of space?
Cultural or Biological Differences: The aesthetics, including light color and patterns, might be influenced by cultural or biological factors specific to the alien beings. What is functional or visually significant to one species might not be so to another.
But somehow their lights are almost exactly like ours – no crazy patterns, no lights that are 1000x brighter than ours or incredibly dim – or in a different wavelength. They’re pretty much just like our drones and planes..

On the other hand – if these ‘drones’ that are flying around our nuclear bases are from China or adversaries – or even secret ships humanity has created. why in world would you put announcement lights on them?
