Many people talk about how we have been given hints through movies like close encounters et al. But I think we have already been told why they are here through movies. They aren’t here for us at all. They are here for earth. In the movie The Day The Earth Stood Still the alien states planets capable of sustaining life are rare. They have watched and waited for humans to change their ways, but the time has come to eliminate the humans.
