Response from Senator Cornyn,

“Thank you for contacting me regarding the disclosure of information relating to Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena. I appreciate having the benefit of your comments on this important matter.

The Fiscal Year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (FY24 NDA), which I was proud to support, included the Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) Disclosure Act of 2023. This provision would establish an independent agency to centralize and, eventually, declassify UP records. I understand the importance of preserving and maintaining sensitive information related to our national security. I will continue to keep your thoughts in mind as legislation related to government transparency and national security is considered in the 118th Congress.

The FY24 NDAA also included many priorities which directly affect Texas servicemembers and their families. This includes a pay raise for our troops, expands access to dental and mental health care, and improves the methods used to calculate housing allowances. I also secured more than $230 million for military construction projects in Texas, including new barracks at Fort Cavazos, a new Child Development Center at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, and a new F-16 Mission Training Center at Joint Base San Antonio. On July 27, 2023, I was proud to strongly support final passage of the FY24 NDAA.

I firmly believe it is the duty of those in Congress to provide for a robust national defense and support our nation’s men and women in uniform, while acting as stewards of the taxpayer’s hard-earned money. It is imperative that the threats facing our nation drive the U.S. Department of Defense policies and budget. Adequate and stable funding is critical for maintaining the readiness of our Armed Forces. Without the necessary resources, our military cannot be the best trained and equipped in the world.

I appreciate having the opportunity to represent Texas in the United States Senate. Thank you for taking the time to contact me.

Sincerely, JOHN CORNYN United States Senator
