Sophons

I was just watching the Coulthart interview with Burchett and Paul Thigpen and the way they were discussing religion. It got me thinking about the scifi series 3 Body Problem and how the NHI send their Sophons to hamper humanity’s scientific efforts to essentially keep us from becoming a threat.

What if this isn’t too far from the truth, instead of sophons the NHI created religions to keep us in the dark, ignorant, and fearful of this “demonic” presence. How much of our progress has been stunted by fighting amongst ourselves and ignoring science in favour of magical fairy tales. We’re here talking about these old books filled with fantasy in deadly seriousness like they deserve to be revered, yet talking about life forms coming here from other planets is considered crazy?!!

To me, religion seems like a pretty good weapon/ control mechanism to keep a species from advancing. The guys at the Pentagon won’t go near it because it’s demonic and invites the devil.

If this was the case, you then have to wonder. What would happen if enough of humanity were both non-religious, and aware of NHI. Would this call for a different control measure to be implemented? Is this why some who know the truth are scared to reveal it?
