I’ve been fascinated by this STS-48 NASA video taken in 1991 for a long time and recently found this analysis which concludes that a number of the objects are self-propelled. A good part of the analysis is over my head, but it seems noteworthy to me.

Around a year ago, I got into a heated discussion with someone on Twitter/X who claimed the video had already been debunked and simply showed the motion of debris due to the space shuttle thrusters being fired.

I went so far as to attempt to track down a guy who did some research on it named Jack Kasher, but he never replied to my LinkedIn message.

My amateur opinion is that a terrestrial based projectile was fired at one of the objects, causing it to speed away at a radical angle.
