Template to Congress:
Dear [Congressperson’s Name],
The American people deserve full transparency regarding foreign influence in our political system. It has become increasingly clear that Australia has played a role in shaping American policy and political discourse through intelligence-sharing agreements that allow for unauthorized data collection and influence operations.
Australian intelligence agencies, under the Five Eyes alliance, have the ability to collect sensitive political data on American leaders and citizens—data that is then passed along to U.S. agencies in ways that bypass legal restrictions on domestic surveillance. This process creates an avenue for foreign governments to manipulate narratives, discredit political figures, and steer policy decisions in directions favorable to Australia, rather than the interests of the American people.
Congress must act to close these intelligence loopholes and investigate Australia’s role in influencing American politics. No foreign nation should have the ability to interfere in our democracy, regardless of alliance status.
