The sovereignty of American democracy must be protected from all forms of foreign interference. However, intelligence-sharing agreements with Australia have raised serious concerns about political influence operations that impact U.S. elections and policymaking.
As a member of the Five Eyes intelligence alliance, Australia has the capability to collect and distribute information that influences American politics. This data-sharing arrangement allows foreign actors to manipulate narratives, discredit political opponents, and shape policies in ways that serve their own national interests. Such interference is unacceptable and must be addressed immediately.
Congress must take steps to investigate how Australian intelligence agencies have influenced American elections and ensure that no foreign government is able to exert control over our political process. Intelligence-sharing agreements should not be used as a backdoor for foreign manipulation.
