The Aerial episode of Encounters on Netflix

The Aerial phenomenon case is one of my personal favourites because of how vivid the experience was for those that witnessed it and their consistent recollection of the experience since.

Watching the episode they introduce a guy who was also one of the students at the school and immediately he seems on edge, troubled, generally unreliable and almost angry. He goes on to say he didn’t see aliens, and it opened my interest because we usually only hear about the other 60 kids who did witness the event, but the more he speaks the more it becomes clear that he is quite bitter that these other children had this experience, got a little attention and then he attempts to take credit for the entire event saying he pointed at a rock and said it was a UFO and everyone started going crazy (making him the star, conveniently).

Then he says he obviously would have gone up and touched the UFO if he seen it because why wouldn’t you, duh? Why would they travel here and risk it on some playground, a ridiculous sentiment I hear repeated by people that apply their own ignorance to another species- as if they cant fathom that these beings wouldn’t land on the White House (and I emphasise White because there’s always an underlying race component), or a celebrity? Why some stupid kids?

This case is one of the strongest, even without photographic evidence, especially thanks to the work of John Mack, but I continue to see attempts at dismissing the entire case simply because they were children and it was South Africa, and I cant understand the ignorance. If this guy’s story or behaviour was somewhat credible then we could talk about it and question the event, but he just screams desperate and angry at how his life turned with some clear signs of narcissism, like someone you’d meet at rehab that won’t admit they have any issue.

Thankfully the documentary did a good job of contradicting his story with much more trustworthy and genuine individuals who actually had the experience and are very clear, even clearer than they were when they had it as they can understand the messages they received, whereas previously they didn’t have a complete understanding of the messaging such as that related to technology and the environment (climate change wasn’t much of a topic in the 90’s, especially to children).

Its important to remain open with these stories, especially mass sightings, but its a little infuriating that egomaniacs can’t stand something that isn’t about them or comprehend other people having an experience they didn’t personally have- so they attempt to shit on and disregard it in an attempt to become the centre of attention. A decent person who didn’t see anything might say “I didn’t see anything, but the other students said they did and it sounds interesting” as opposed to “60 of them are lying because I pointed at a rock”.

No doubt there are still many here who don’t believe the story- again because they’re kids and its South Africa, but I have yet to see a credible dispute or flaw in the case, the marginal differences in drawings aren’t a credible critique. I’ve only watched 2 episodes but its great so far and they have the original experiencers from old cases with original footage of their previous appearances on TV etc where they are consistent to this day about what they seen.
