UAP FAQ for Newcomers

I compiled a frequently asked questions to summarize some of the questions people may have with regards to UAP and the recent claims and developments of 2023. May be useful to share with friends or family that have an interest but haven’t been following closely.

References included at end.

What are UAP?

Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP), more commonly known as UFOs. They are defined by law1]) as:“(A) airborne objects that are not immediately identifiable;

(B) transmedium objects or devices;

(C) submerged objects or devices that are not immediately identifiable and that display behavior or performance characteristics suggesting that the objects or devices may be related to the objects described in subparagraph (A)”

Are these objects real?

Yes, the 2021 report “Preliminary Assessment: Unidentified Aerial Phenomena” by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence states: “Most of the UAP reported probably do represent physical objects given that a majority of UAP were registered across multiple sensors, to include radar, infrared, electro-optical, weapon seekers, and visual observation. In a limited number of incidents, UAP reportedly appeared to exhibit unusual flight characteristics.” 2])

Sean Kirkpatrick, first director of AARO, responded to a question at NASA UAP Independent Study Team meeting about whether object on a video shown could be a sensor or data processing artifact. He says that the sensor used is understood very, very well and that it is a real object.3])

What can these objects do?

Per the Senate-passed Schumer-Rounds amendment, the UAP Disclosure Act of 2023, to the NDAA for FY 2024, it says UAP “are differentiated from both attributed and temporarily non-attributed objects by one or more of the following observables:

(i) Instantaneous acceleration absent apparent inertia.

(ii) Hypersonic velocity absent a thermal signature and sonic shockwave.

(iii) Transmedium (such as space-to-ground and air-to-undersea) travel.

(iv) Positive lift contrary to known aerodynamic principles.

(v) Multispectral signature control.

Physical or invasive biological effects to close observers and the environment.” 4])

How are these craft being tracked?

The CIA has a ‘system in place that can discern UFOs while they’re still cloaked,’ and that if the ‘non-human’ craft land, crash or are brought down to earth, special military units are sent to try to salvage the wreck.5])

An intelligence officer specializing in UAP analysis at the National Air and Space Intelligence Center (NASIC) said: “A vast array of our most sophisticated sensors, including space-based platforms, have been utilized by different agencies, typically in triplicate, to observe and accurately identify the out-of-this-world nature, performance, and design of these anomalous machines, which are then determined not to be of earthly origin.”6])

Intelligence and defense sources have said some of the alleged crashed non-human craft were caused by “dogfights” with other unknown craft.7])

How are these craft being retrieved?

CIA’s Office of Global Access (OGA) is ‘basically a facilitator for people to get in and out of countries’, specializing in allowing the US military to secretly access areas around the world where they would usually be ‘denied’ – for example behind enemy lines.5])

How many are in US possession?

There have been 12-30 craft recovered since World War II.8]) The CIA obtained 9 of the craft.5]) Whistleblower David Grusch confirmed that total is double-digit.9]) Some craft are intact or partially intact.6])

Where are they being kept?

Private aerospace companies, such as Lockheed Martin9]). Others reported to be working with UAP materials include Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, Radiance Technologies, and Battelle Memorial Institute.

Are there non-human bodies?

Yes, both living and dead. David Grusch has confirmed the number of biologics are also in the double digits.9])

What kind(s) of bodies?

Grusch claims there are a variety of them.9])

Are we in communication with these beings?

Yes, to some extent. There has been contact and collaboration with nonhuman intelligence (NHI).10]) Per the Senate-passed Schumer-Rounds amendment to the NDAA for FY 2024, it says NHI means “any sentient intelligent non-human lifeform regardless of nature or ultimate origin that may be presumed responsible for unidentified anomalous phenomena or of which the Federal Government has become aware.” 4])

What is the legacy program?

Per the Senate-passed Schumer-Rounds amendment to the NDAA for FY 2024, it says legacy program means “all Federal, State, and local government, commercial industry, academic, and private sector endeavors to collect, exploit, or reverse engineer technologies of unknown origin or examine biological evidence of living or deceased non-human intelligence that pre-dates the date of the enactment of this Act.” 4])

Any reverse engineering breakthroughs?

Yes, which includes successful reverse-engineering of a triangle-shaped craft with unconventional propulsion.10])

Is the US government taking this seriously?

Yes, the Pentagon has a permanent office All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) which has received over 800 governmental reports of UAP. Their website is aaro.mil and has a submission that, per law1]) is intended for authorized reporting of:“(A) any event relating to unidentified anomalous phenomena; and

(B) any activity or program by a department or agency of the Federal Government or a contractor of such a department or agency relating to unidentified anomalous phenomena, including with respect to material retrieval, material analysis, reverse engineering, research and development, detection and tracking, developmental or operational testing, and security protections and enforcement.”

By law, the AARO Director now reports to the Deputy Secretary of Defense and Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence.1])

NASA also named a Director of UAP Research, Mark McInerney.

Who is advocating for disclosure?

Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Intelligence and Armed Services Cmte. member Sen. Todd Young (R-IN) Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-NM), Intelligence Committee member

Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) Rep. Eric Burlison (R-MO) Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN)

Who is advocating against disclosure?

Those who are reported to have opposed UAP Disclosure Act of 2023 during the conference committee:

Jim Himes (D-CT), Intelligence Committee ranking member Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Senate Minority Leader Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS), Senate Armed Services ranking member
