I’d like to get some input on the state of UFO internet, specifically for online communities of people who are interested in this topic. I’m trying to better understand where UFOs/UAPs are discussed online and check if there are any smaller corners of the internet that might be worth taking a look at. For what it’s worth, I teach digital media at the university level and these are my observations.
So there’s Reddit, which is home to a variety of UFO/UAP related subreddits and by default is the largest hub of people that qualifies as an online community. Some of these have Discord channels which are comparatively small but very active. Twitter has significantly less people, but the central figures and organizations use Twitter as their primary means of communication, so this can be seen as the heart of UFO internet. YouTube has a large amount of content creators focused on this topic and some of the leading figures have a very large following. Not much interaction between users, but lots of comments/views on the most popular UFO content. Instagram has a few large handles focused on UFOs and aliens, but the majority of accounts feel spammy and tend to post low quality or sensational/conspiracy content. A handful of established UFO figures have large followings. Facebook is similar and has a lot of low-quality pages about UFOs/aliens, but there seems to be a lot of individual Facebook groups with “UFO enthusiasts” that are just random people posting stuff they think is cool, vs instagram which is more monetized spam content. I am too old for TikTok but last time I checked, the UFO content was pretty spammy. I don’t know what’s going on with snapchat either. There’s a million UFO websites that regularly publish content, but Liberation Times and Ask a Pol are the only places I would recommend. UAP Caucus, Disclosure Diaries, and Declassify UAP are great. There are very few websites I know of that are regularly updated with high-quality content. Places like uap.guide are great but they don’t regularly update their site. There are organizations like Mufon which requires some sort of payment to participate in the community, not really sure what goes on there. CE5 is another paid membership thing that has a community aspect but it’s not clear if there is actual interaction there. It seems there are many country-specific groups/communities that post content in their native language. Baidu and VK would be interesting to learn about.
From my own observation, UAP disclosure / activist content was minimal outside of Reddit, Twitter and YouTube. This will be a good opportunity for the activist community to work on improving when the Schumer-Rounds amendment is resurrected and we need to rally everyone to hit the phone and call their legislative representatives.
