It was either Aristotle or Socrates who declared that ultimate wisdom or Sophia is reserved for the gods. We cannot know and should only ever amount to philein sophia, or love of wisdom, I.e., the study of philosophy.
I’ve always found it fascinating that a population of any given size, aligned on some topic, will always at some point diverge into disagreement. Particularly about the nature of NHI, the nature of being, and ultimate knowledge.
I sort of envision the realm conscious thought as a circle in which we all inhabit, the edge of the circle serving as a barrier and limit to our understanding. As we approach the limit, much like the mathematical sense, we can find ourselves infinitely close; however, are prohibited from ever reaching the edge. Furthermore, I envision the edge like a magnetic barrier that’s opposite in polarity to us conscious beings inhabiting the circle. As we approach the edge, we are inevitably repelled away gently, redirected at random into another direction within the circle.
This proposed thought experiment works well as a foundational basis to assert why our collective convergence on any topic at scale within the nature of ‘being’ is also futile: when we align a population toward some point on the edge of our circle of limited knowledge, we are individually repelled away from and redirected at random, not just from the edge of the circle, but from each other as well; rendering a productive discourse into chaotic mess.
It sounds a lot like the story of the tower or babel, to me: a population of some size desperately trying to construct their way to ultimate knowledge, defined as God, only to find themselves deteriorating into incoherence.
Even when some party of individuals come as near to the limit as they possibly can, much like our own government allegedly in craft possession, they are repelled away from their fellow man into paranoia, secrecy, and corruption; even within their own ranks. Meanwhile, we on the outside can barely agree on Mylar balloons vs actual phenomenon. Hell, Rogan just flipped 180 on Grusch and publically threw him to the wolves.
Tom Delonge once mentioned that our conscience at the individual level is somehow being suppressed. Well, sometimes I genuinely believe it. And perhaps that old biblical story was trying to say the same thing.
This is all of course pure speculation. But it does provide me with some comfort in accepting the very real possibility that we just might never know; for some reason beyond us. Perhaps only known to our NHI friends.
Thoughts?
