Happy new year everybody.
I figured since this subreddit is mainly focused on how much coverage the UAP topic receives in the English speaking world, not many people on this subreddit are aware of how this is in Germany.
Around Christmas a documentary on UAP was broadcasted on the German TV channel ZDF. It was hosted by the German physicist Professor Harald Lesch and featured interviews of Ryan Graves, Alex Dietrich and several German commentators.
Why is this noteworthy?
First and foremost the ZDF is a mostly trusted source of news. Especially older people put trust in the so called “öffentlich rechtlichen Rundfunk”. (Maybe comparable to PBS in the US.) Although the funding scheme under which they operate is mostly disliked by the German populous it is designed to ensure unbiased reporting. There is much controversy on how well this actually works but I would say the majority of Germans still trust the ZDF. I don’t want to stir up a discussion on German media but I wanted to quickly point out, why I think this documentary will reach people who were previously not exposed to the topic and why they might actually lend credence to their reporting.
Secondly, Harald Lesch was the host for this piece. Harald Lesch is an important science communicator in Germany and he is very trusted and liked by most people. He has about the same name recognition as NDT or Bill Nye have in the US. Naturally I assumed he would not engage in the discussion around UAP but to my surprise he actually did.
I did not watch the documentary in its entirety because I was a bit busy over the holidays but in the first few minutes they named the basic facts regarding the Nimitz and Roosevelt encounters. Most importantly they did not ridicule it outright and encouraged an open mind.
Since this documentary was first broadcasted in 2022 they did not mention David Grusch.
