I wanted to get all this straight based on his interviews so I thought this might help people make sense of his timeline. Feel free to point out any mistakes if you see them with a source and I’ll correct it.

Grusch works at the Geospatial Defense Agency. He receives a report that a foreign adversary is attempting to infiltrate our UFO program. Grusch is like what the hell? We have a UFO program? He follows up with his lead using this report as proof and ends up being read in on the existence of a UFO crash retrieval program. He gets tasked as a representative to the UAP task force at the Pentagon to investigate these claims. He starts interviewing people he found through reports that were involved. Over 40 officials, some with first hand knowledge of these programs. He also allegedly gets first hand access to the evidence. (Pending an op-ed that he announced on Newsnation). Grusch then brings all this information to the Inspector General, who found his assertion of a hidden UFO/NHI reverse engineering program “credible and urgent.” I just want to stay on this credible and urgent point, because a lot of people will tell that only his claim of retaliation was found “credible and urgent”. That’s incorrect. His claim of UFO reverse engineering programs was found credible and urgent. As pointed out specifically in this Hill article. He then files an official whisleblower complaint, and brings all his evidence, names, and locations to Congress. During all this he and his family are repeatedly retaliated against. (He doesn’t specifically name who threatened him, but he alludes to forces inside the government threatening him and his family). Over a year after filing the whisleblower complaint Dave Grusch goes public through Newsnation and The Debrief with the parts of his complaint that were not not deemed an immediate threat to national security.
