If you’re familiar with the book, not the movie, Mothman Prophecies, and the recent info from Skinwalker Ranch, there are a lot of overlapping themes exhibited by the phenomenon, specifically its uncanny ability to constantly stay one step ahead of intangible circumstances of every day human life.
Personally, I look at it as the phenomenon displaying its power over us. It wants us to know we are insignificant compared to it. Why else would it go out of its way to play mind games and hide random items and cause poltergeists? I think it’s just a lonely, spiritually advanced, extra dimensional entity that was aware of us throughout history and once we noticed it, it got annoyed or perked up because it felt exposed.
I think there is definitely a malevolent side to this whole thing, but it’s being held back by a struggling benevolent force which is looking out for us.
I genuinely think the malevolent force may just be some immature “entity” that has nothing better to do. Maybe it’s trapped on earth somehow, or wants to stay here because of an abundance of a certain type of energy that it can harvest like human fear. Something feels irregular about it’s behavior. It doesn’t act like an educated advanced entity seemingly would.
By our logic, if it is making contact with us, why would that be to mislead and deceive? Because it doesn’t like that we’re aware of it. We never used to be, but now we are gaining more functional and invasive tools, so it has to run interference.
