The ever present need for integration of a complete battlefield picture.
Army, Air Force and Navy have all integrated their weapon systems.
2010’s a new weapon is in development and deployed: Hypersonic Missiles.
You have to open up the parameters. Things get seen. Traveling too fast for weapons or traveling too slow for a threat are now being viewed by 18 year old military personnel.
Before 2010 you could simply discard the results of radar/space systems. Now we have to account for those. The cat is out of the bag.
*Edit- Considering the responses I felt I should clarify: I believe our monitoring systems HAVE to open up to cover hypersonic threats and thus those UAP/UFO in our airspace are being tracked by everyday military personal. It’s not top secret anymore when sailors and airman are tracking objects making maneuvers beyond our known technology. In order to stay safe… we HAVE to track objects that would otherwise have been dismissed by the weapons system. A weapons system which would have never shown anomalous tracks to an 18 year old seaman.
