I’ve been underwhelmed by the X-59… at least in the context of the hype it’s been getting.
Furthermore, if you use the SR-71 as a base case (where it was in service in 1966 and only confirmed to exist in 1990) then you would assume this is 20 to 25 years behind reliable engineering LM-SW have developed elsewhere.
However, what’s been interesting is that the focus not on how the X-59’s speed and quietness could be weaponised but rather how it could be commercialised to improve travel times and costs for civilian passengers on domestic and international flights (this is great for commerce and makes the world a little smaller in a good way).
Given recent pressure on congress where LM-SW have been named as having access to materials (or even craft) that give them a significant engineering advantage – could this focus on how they’re helping the world be some proactive PR to counter this perception/stigma?
Proactive in the event something is disclosed or even proactive in the sense that the ongoing connotations of their involvement with any sort of off the books government program would have awarded them a commercial advantage etc.
What do you think?
