UFO story from Dad, 1960

Here’s a story I’ve heard from my dad every decade or so throughout my 40 years. I grew up in a conservative family that didn’t believe in ghost stories or any sort of metaphysical stuff. It always took me aback that he would nonchalantly recall this sighting.

Today on the phone, talking about the Lions in the playoffs, I asked him for a recap with all of the UAP news lately (he wasn’t aware of all the stories popping up in the mainstream). He actually said “I think that guy that testified was proven insane”. It’s so odd, he wants to debunk any and all stories but speaks of his own as if it’s fully unimpeachable. Makes me believe it even more.

1960 late August. Toledo, Ohio. My Dad is 12. His family and neighbors hanging out in the back yard. He and his friend went wandering into the trees behind their houses catching fireflies. He said a red orb the size of him ~5′ came and hovered 30-40′ over him and his friend for a few seconds then shot up into the sky very fast. They told their parents. Nobody believed them. He and his neighbor friend talked about it for a few weeks and that was that. Mostly forgotten.
