Why are some people so quick to buy into the more outlandish claims made by Ufologists?

I think everyone here agrees that the entire conversation around the UFO/UAP phenomenon is incredibly strange. From project blue book to the recent congressional hearings, the US government has had a part to play in what we know about the phenomenon and how we think about it. it seems incredibly obvious to me that the information we garner in places like this subreddit is heavily curated, and I’ll say it, mostly bullshit. How can you guys blithely accept the convoluted bullshit that people like Elizondo espouse? It’s honestly borderline embarrassing that we parade around ideas like his when there most assuredly is something going on. Please for the love of god, be more objective about things. When someone declares that they hold some secret knowledge (without proof!) they are almost always lying. The only difference between Elizondo and Lazar is about 30 years of scrutiny. Tell me I’m wrong.
