Whatever happened to the USS Nimitz’s captain, Robert J. Gilman? As the story goes, shortly after the incident on Nov 14, 2004, two unknown men appeared on the Nimitz and escorted the captain to retrieve the data bricks from the E-2 Hawkeyes that recorded the Tic Tac event.
One week later his command came to an end. It is unclear if he took another command.
Some two years later, according to LinkedIn, a Robert Gilman became a director at General Atomics Aeronautics.
That Robert Gilman is indeed Captain Robert J. Gilman, as this newspaper announcing the beginning of his captaincy makes clear.
Such a lateral move of a CVN captain to an aeronautical company is not surprising. However, combined with his leaving his post one week after the Nimitz incident, it raises eyebrows. Was he given a secure job out of the Navy for a reason?
