Kevin Knuth talks about a tracking a USO in which the HMNZS Southland tracked a large object following it – and makes a number of calculation’s regarding its size and speeds involved. He mentions it was listed as occurring in February 1987. I cannot find anything outside of the video regarding the subject so I wonder where the story comes from.

The NZ navy museum gives a service timeline but skips what the ship was doing in February 1987 – but mentions an exercise was underway in March 1987 in the Hauraki Gulf which is the area discussed in the talk – so it was at least confirmed to be in the area.
I remember reading about the UFO documents on the New Zealand archives – but I guess it wouldn’t pick up navy operations…
Any thoughts?
