If UFOs don’t exist, what’s the point of disinformation?

No foreign government is going to be fooled by UFO disinformation campaigns if UFOs are not known to exist. The place where we’re falsely claiming UFOs are will be the first place spies look for classified aircraft. The whole ‘Mirage Men’ premise is stupid, even if they really did it once. So if not to genuinely disclose proof of UFOs, what’s the point of these ongoing ‘anonymous leaks’ that our favorite e-celebrities like to cite?

There’s just one answer that I can come up, and it’s this: UFOs are a state-sponsored folklore campaign. The people in the Air Force like flying saucer lore, and they don’t want it to die. So to ensure it keeps getting talked about, they regularly release more ‘top secret information’.

But yes, if you had to come upn with an explanation for these leaks that don’t involve UFOs, what would it be? I don’t have any good answers.
