UFOs in the Old Testament: Additional Context

This is going to surely be a more controversial post, and it’s not anything new, but I find it worth sharing.

You may be familiar with Ezekiel’s account with a “UFO,” but I rarely see in depth coverage of what it really means in context of what the Hebrew Torah is portraying. For example, it’s not just “a ufo” it’s “Yahweh’s Ruach [flying craft]

Below you will find passages and verses from “Gods of the Bible” by Mauro Biglino. If you’re interested in the Annunaki, Elohim, Divine Counsel and that sorta thing- this is the book for you.

As a disclaimer: this is not pitch for “ancient astronauts” or “aliens built megaliths.” This is purely information regarding the very subject and existence of UFOs, take it how you will.

Mauro Biglino is a linguistics expert who was hired by the Vatican to translate the Old Testament from Hebrew to French to English. If you’re interested, he has a great interview with Graham Hancock you can easily find on YouTube.

Before getting into the passages and cover image, I’d like to refer to a document called “UAP in Antiquity” published by NASA to get the point across that “flying metallic discs” are nothing new, and have been observed and recorded since 200 BCE.

“In 217 BC “at Arpi round shields (parmas) were seen in the sky” (Liv. 22.1.9; Orosius 4.15). A parma was a small round shield made partly or wholly of iron, bronze or another metal; we do not know whether the luster of these devices (and not just their shape) was intended to be an element of the description. Mock suns are an unlikely explanation, since in the Roman prodigy lists these were routinely described as “double suns.”

” In 100 BC, probably at Rome, “a round shield (clipeus), burning and emitting sparks, ran across the sky from west to east, at sunset.” Thus Pliny (Nat. 2.100), although Obsequens (45) called the phenomenon “a circular object, like a round shield.” The clipeus was a round shield similar to the parma, but bigger. Seneca (Nat. 1.1.15; 7.20.2), quoting Posidonius (1st century BC), referred to a class of clipei flagrantes, saying that they persisted longer than shooting stars.”

” If these reports are examined statistically, essential features of what I will, for argument’s sake, call the ancient UFO phenomenon can be extracted: • shape—discoidal or spheroidal; • color—silvery, golden or red; • texture—metallic or, occasionally, glowing or cloudy; • size—a meter to well over a meter; • sound—usually none reported; • type of motion—hovering, erratic or smooth flight, with a rapid disappearance.”

How consistent can the UFO observation get? Are you sure the phenomenon is “just stories,” or observations made in nature?

Please keep in mind, the Term “Elohim” has a rational interpretation to mean something like “powerful ones” and is very similar to the way the Annunaki are described. This is most likely because Old Testament stories are in part derived from older Mesopotamian stories. Mauro points out there are 23 Elohim mentioned in literal context, as beings, not just as idols. I can go on and on about the Elohim, but that is an entirely different post. You will see what I mean in Deuteronomy 32:8–9.

Anyways, Mauro pinpoints the root of the word Ruach to that of the Sumerian pictogram for “Ru-A.” This is image #1

“The [ruach] transports people in the Bible with some frequency. In the following few paragraphs, we will examine the exciting story of the prophet Elijah, who also traveled in a [ruach].

The episode is found in 2 Kings 2 and is known as “the abduction of Elijah,” even though the term “abduction” is not appropriate, as what happened to the prophet was known to him in advance. He knowingly sets off towards the take-off site, accompanied by his disciples, who also know what will happen.

The chapter begins with the departure of Elijah and his disciple Eli-she from the city of Galgal. The prophet invites his young follower to stay, telling him that Yahweh ordered him only to go to Bet-El (which means “House of El,” i.e the place where one of the Elohim either lived”

“Look,” they said, “we your servants have fifty able men. Let them go and look for your master. Perhaps [ruach] of Yahweh (has picked him up and set him down on some mountain or in some valley.” “No,” Elijah replied, ” do not send them.” But they persisted until he was too embarrassed to refuse. So he said, “Send them.” And they sent fifty men, who searched for three days but did not find him. (2 Kings 2:16-17)

Why would 50 men go looking for Elija if he was having a remote vision /dream? Maybe it’s because the Ruach physically transported Elijah to another location.

“Afterwards the spirit [ruach] took me up, and brought me in a vision by the Spirit of God [ruach of Elohim] into Chaldea, to them of the captivity. So the vision that I had seen went up from me. (Ezekiel 11:24)

“The spirit [ruach] lifted me up and brought me to the gate of the house of Yahweh that faces east. There at the entrance of the gate were twenty-five men, and I saw among them Jaazaniah son of Azzur and Pelatiah son of Bena-iah, leaders of the people.” (Ezekiel 11:1)

In my thirtieth year in the fourth month on the fifth day while was mon the exiles by the Kevar river, the heavens were opened and I saw visions of Elohim. (Ezekiel 1:4)

Ezekiel states that he witnessed events where the Elohim were present with their flying objects.

The prophet was so impressed that he remembers the exact day and place of this event. It was the fifth day of the fourth month of the fifth year of the exile of Jehoiachin (probably 593-592 BCE).

Ezekiel then goes on and says: And I looked, and, behold, a whirlwind [ruach] came out of the north, a great cloud, a fire infoldng itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the color of amber, out of the midst of the fire. (Ezekiel 1:4)”

Now for some Elohim context

Deuteronomy 32:8–9 “When The Most High (Elyon) gave the nations as an inheritance, when he separated the sons of Adam (man), he set the boundaries of the peoples according to the number of the sons of God. For Yahweh’s portion was his people; Jacob was the lot of his inheritance.”

Deuteronomy 13:6-1 If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you love, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying, “let us go and worship other Elohim (Elohim that neither you nor your ancestors have known, from Elohim of the peoples around you, whether near or far, from one end of the land to the other). do nor yield to them or listen to them. Show them no pity. Do not spare them or shield them. You must certainly put them to death. Your hand must be the first in putting them to death, and then the hands of all the people. Stone them to death, because they tried to turn you away from Yahweh your Elohim, Who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

Psalm 82:6-8 6 “I (Elyon) said: Ye are godlike beings, and all of you (Elohim) are sons of the Most High. Nevertheless ye shall die like Adam, and fall like one of the princes.’ Arise, O Elohim, judge the earth; for Thou shalt possess all the nations.”

Numbers 21:5 They spoke against Yahweh and against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread! There is no water! And we detest this miserable food!” Then the Lord sent venomous snakes among them; they bit the people and many Israelites died.

“The word Elohim occurs more than two thousand five hundred times in the Hebrew Bible, with meanings ranging from “gods” in a general sense (as in Exodus 12:12, where it describes “the gods of Egypt”), to specific gods (the frequent references to Yahweh as the “elohim” of Israel.”

Compared to Sumerian mythology

‘Enki (called “the serpent” in Sumerian language that translates to “the administrator” in English) was in favour of creating conscious humans that could live independently of their creators.’

Genesis 3:5 The Serpent (Enki) to Eve – For Elohim don’t know that in the tree ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be like Elohim (powerful ones), knowing good and evil”

Genesis 1:27 ‘So the High Most (Elyon) created ‘humankind’ in his own tzelem (DNA), in the tzelem of Elohim created zachar (male) and nekevah (female)

Genesis 2:15 “And Hashem Elohim took the Adam and put him in the gan Eden la’avod (the garden of Eden to till, to work) it and to be shomer over it. And Hashem Elohim commanded the Adam saying, of every etz of gan (tree/fruit) thou freely eat; but the tree of good and evil (which is really a reference to the tree of reproduction) thou shalt not eat of it; for in the yom that thou eatest thereof shall surely die”

Compared to Mesoamerican mythology

“Long ago, the gods of Mesoamerica set out to create humans. They tried many times during each sun, or age. When all their attempts failed and the gods grew tired, only one did not give up: Quetzalcóatl—the Feathered Serpent.”

Images 2-4 are art found in Egypt, Mesoamerica, and Aboriginal Australian. These are very old depictions, that I’m unsure on the exact date for, but just thought it was worth mentioning for those interested in religious comparisons. There is a great article you can find called “The Mystery of Serpent Worship.”

Now, a final thought

A quote by Russel Wallace, colleague of Charles Darwin

“The inference I would draw from this class of phenomena is that a superior intelligence has guided the development of man in a definite direction, and for a special purpose, just as man guides the development of many animal and vegetable forms. The laws of evolution alone would, perhaps, never have produced a grain so well adapted to man’s use as wheat and maize; such fruits as the seedless banana and bread-fruit; or such animals as the Guernsey milk cow, of the London dray-horse. Yet these so closely resemble the unaided productions of nature, that we may well imagine a being who had mastered the laws of development of organic forms through past ages, refusing to believe that any new power had been concerned in their production, and scornfully rejecting the theory (as my theory will be rejected by many who agree with me on other points), that in these few cases a controlling intelligence had directed one action of the laws of variation, multiplication, and survival, for his own purposes. We know, however, that this has been done; and we must therefore admit the possibility that, if we are not the highest intelligences in the universe, some higher intelligence may have directed the process by which the human race was developed, by means of more subtle agencies than we are acquainted with.”
