This question eats at me all the time and it just doesn’t add up. Unless they received a medical discharge, in my 10 years in the military, I never saw someone get out voluntarily with that much time in unless they were having health issues and had to be discharged. I believe Lou and David both had around 17 years of service a piece. Grusch has said he has a disability rating, so that might be the reason he got out early. Most military personnel with that much time in can’t wait to hit their 20 year mark. They both, along with their dependents, would have benefited greatly had they gotten their 20 years in and then became whistleblowers. Elizondo would actually get to “double dip” because he works as a government contractor. Double dipping is when you retire from one federal agency and go to work for another one and essentially having two retirement checks.
