Help me explain this

Hi all, sorry if this is the wrong place to post this question but I cannot explain what I saw.

I was on a plane from Sydney Australia to Brisbane Australia passing over rural farmland.

There were some clouds fairly close below us and I saw what looked like the spire of the Empire State Building poking through the clouds.

I watched it closely trying to figure out what it was and it appeared to be moving independently of the cloud itself. Obviously there was no tower or anything below the cloud.

I thought about trying to capture it on video but I knew the phone camera wouldn’t capture it properly.

Call me crazy if you want, but wanted to see if anyone has heard of anything similar?
