The military has created them, but they don’t know how.

Speculation time,

I think it would be interesting if our top military scientists in some sort of nuclear experiment or otherwise ended up creating this things. Maybe they weren’t even “created”, as much as pulled from other dimensions.

The top brass has the military keep doing this so we can be there when they arrive and capture them for their technology.

The problem is they are so far advanced in the case of shape shifting UFOs and unmanned vehicles that we cannot know their intentions without thousands of years of advancement.

This might explain the fact that in many cases military planes and helicopters are seen in the vicinity of these things. Also might explain Bigfoot, chupacabra and faeries being related to the phenomena because they’re just less advanced beings pulled from other dimensions.

This also might explain the existential crisis of fucking around with a technology that has the capability to wipe us out in an instant if we pulled “stuff” from the wrong dimension.
