This is an element of “UFO world” that bothers me to no end, and I’m not sure that I’ve ever seen it discussed within the broader community.
Every week I skim through UFO Twitter, YouTube, Reddit, podcasts and other websites looking for interesting cases/testimony, breakdowns of the latest UFO news, and the like. There are a lot of great sources that I trust & engage with regularly. But I’ve noticed a common theme among fringe/conspiracy adjacent platforms & creators: TERRIBLE, and I mean terrible, presentation.
A few thoughts on this:
• Hire a designer for your website banner/podcast cover photo/audiobook cover, etc. Your graphics suck. If the things you speak or write about are quality & worth listening to, you should present them with the same level of effort. The AI generated stuff looks tacky. Canva is a likely culprit for the shit text layout. Take yourself seriously.
• Your website is unusable & all the copy on it is awful. Please at least research a bit into how copywriting & editing work. Study bigger platforms and mimic what they do. Your web layout doesn’t have to be so confusing.
• Get your audio right. Podcasting equipment & DAWs have never been more accessible. There’s no reason you should be uploading Zoom audio if you have a regularly scheduled podcast with multiple hosts. Guests not withstanding, this is an easy variable to control.
• Don’t get me started on how substandard MOST UFO documentaries are.
There are plenty of exceptions to my complaints here, and I’m really glad that there are people & groups within this space that take the time to present themselves in a thoughtful & creative way.
But if it’s our goal to get the general public onboard with the UFO issue, we have to stop letting shit like this slide. Whether you like it or not, people will absolutely judge a book/podcast/documentary/researcher by its cover. Just because this topic is fringe doesn’t mean it has to present that way. If you make content about UFOs, put some thought into that.
However, I do understand that, as a grassroots movement, UFO research isn’t exactly a cash cow. Everything that I’ve listed above costs money & takes time. In absence of those resources, though, there are ways to do it cheaply & tastefully.
Let’s take this topic seriously! It deserves to be heard out, but we have to make people WANT to hear it. Presentation is key. 🛸
