Ok. Let me preface this by saying this isn’t a spaceship UFO question (although I have a lot of those) but just a sky watcher curiosity question. Last night, June 8, 2024 my son and I went out to the deck right before bed (best guess it was 10:10-10:20 p.m.) We live in the Santa Cruz mountains, south of San Jose, CA, USA. Cruising past the Big Dipper was what looked like a long, pencil shaped cluster of stars (appeared to be a hundred or more.) it wasn’t a shooting star (I’ve seen them.) it wasn’t a satellite (I’ve seen them.) we watched it for about ten seconds until it disappeared behind the treeline (heading from the SW to the SE basically, and maybe two thirds of the way to “straight up.” I immediately went inside and did some searching and it sounded like maybe a launch of numerous Star link satellites at once? But in searching the star link launch stuff I couldn’t find one from yesterday. I did see there was supposed to be a star link satellite visible in that area around 9:54 tonight so I went and looked. I saw the satellite. It was nothing like what we saw last night. Nothing. Any ideas? Sorry for the long ramble, and if this violates some rule of posting.
