As a former sceptic, one of the major arguments I had against NHI visiting this planet were the distances involved. They were just too far. It would take too long to get here. The nearest star is 4 light years away. 4 years travel at the speed of light just to get here and that’s just for the closest stars and you would require infinite energy to accelerate mass to the speed of light.
Once I heard Grusch testimony (and I know this is an appeal to authority) but I found him honest and credible.
I had to reexamine the idea that the distances are too large and I struck on something that I still hear smart sceptics ignoring.
Time dilates at near to the speed of light. You don’t need to get to the speed of light. You only need approach it.

Here’s my example. A ship travelling from Zeta Reticuli to earth. Earth is a stationary reference frame 39 light years away.
A ship travelling at 0.999c (so still sublight speed) would travel 39 light years (distance) from the perspective of the NHI onboard within 2 years of actual travel time (1 year 9 months in fact).
Is that still too long? Ok well, you still don’t need to go faster than light – just get closer to light speed 0.9999 and the journey is 6 months.
It creates it’s own issues however, suppose you are picked up by and NHI taken on a 6 month trip to Zeta Reticuli stop for 2 years and return home. Well each 6 month journey is 39 years passing on Earth. You left in 2020AD and you return home in 2100AD, only 3 years older than when you left.
But the point is… The distances aren’t too far and you don’t need to go faster than light. You only need to get closer and closer to contract time.
