I’m pushing for taking reports seriously and for the cause of transparency overall. I know some folks will feel this doesn’t go far enough, but I believe these are the kinds of foundational issues that all my various representatives across the political/credulity spectrum can rally around.

I am writing you as a citizen who has recently been made aware of some troubling concerns from veterans of our military. According to the testimony of 3 decorated veterans under oath in Congress (insert link from your preferred news source), we are not taking seriously enough reports from pilots, both military and civilian, that they are encountering anomalous vehicles and other objects in our skies.
As they describe it, some of these objects exhibit performance characteristics that defy our understanding of aerospace engineering. They not only pose safety hazards to our aircraft, they are operating with apparent impunity in our airspace. Whatever the origins of these craft, this can only be a major national security risk — either our adversaries are significantly more advanced than we are, or we are being reckless in the testing/operation of our own top secret craft. Or there is some other kind of explanation for these craft.
No matter the origins, it is clear that we are not taking this issue seriously enough. I imagine this is partly due to the long-running stigma associated with “unidentified objects.” I obviously don’t know for sure, but I’m concerned that this stigma may be providing top-cover for illegal activity, either by foreign adversaries or within our own government.
One of the veterans who testified under oath in Congress in fact suggested that he is aware of just this kind of illegal activity. I appreciate that maintaining secrecy around certain sensitive issues is essential to our national security and strategic advantage. But based on this testimony and many related concerns from current and former government, military, and civilians, I feel strongly that increased transparency on this issue from our government will, at minimum, de-stigmatize this critically important subject, paving the way for more and better reporting and scientific analysis, and it will likely expose any illegal activity that has been putting our national security at risk.
I hope you will take this issue seriously and support additional hearings, work to amplify the voices of our veterans, officials, and civilians with important data to share, and otherwise push for transparency on these important matters.
