Coulthart says we should send letters to news outlets, in today’s world we know even better.

News sites monitor their searches.
Go to your where you would like the subject to be covered, and search for keywords (Grusch, UAP, Schumer, etc..). That’ll show up in their weekly pie charts.
Do it wide, do it often.

Sponsors monitor add revenues
See a site that addressed the issue? Reward them by clicking on their adds (but only on that precise page). Yeh, I know, we’re naturally trained to mentally filter out adds, but that’s how you send reward signals.
Go full Pavlov on those holding the paychecks; they’ll add an extra level of pressure on the editorial team.

Sites monitor comments, a bit.
Same as the two previous points: send positive signals that you approve their coverage, be constructive in any criticism (give them material, with sources, for a follow up story)

“the readers want it, the ‘internal client’ want it, and there’s no risk of toxic backlash” are the perfect conditions to aim at.

All the above gives ammo to the lone writer who’s kept his idea for a UAP story in his drawer for months.
