Representative Mike Turner, the Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, is facing criticism for his seemingly dismissive approach to serious allegations by highly-cleared whistleblowers regarding rogue U.S. government programs related to Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP). Former senior intelligence officer David Grusch has publicly expressed frustration, as Congressman Turner has not followed up on his testimony about covert programs dealing with non-human materials lacking Congressional oversight. The Intelligence Community’s Inspector General has deemed the allegations “credible and urgent,” but Turner’s lack of investigation and his public comments questioning the whistleblowers’ knowledge have raised considerable concerns about his handling of the matter.

Further increasing the scrutiny on Turner, his comments in an interview failed to accurately reflect the testimony of those who claim to have firsthand knowledge, and additional whistleblowers have filed complaints with the Intelligence Community’s Inspector General. His affiliation with a defense contractor and his previous characterization as a politician “too invested in defense contractors” have added to suspicions about his motives. Turner’s nonchalant approach to allegations that could undermine American democracy has reportedly raised alarms among other Congressional colleagues, while attempts to reach his office for comments have gone unanswered.
