In the very first episode of Star Trek TNG Farpoint Station was revealed to be an alien life form the native inhabitants had enslaved because of its ability to create objects like a replicator and when in its natural form looked like a giant jellyfish.
I can’t say whether or not there are really nhi flying around in our atmosphere that look like giant jellyfish but it is not new. We should realize that there are likely many lifeforms in our universe that are just as smart as us but do not look humanoid.
