Kenneth Arnold and Submarines?

Hi all. I’ve been following the UFO/UAP experience since I was a teenager in the 90s, but I’ve just mostly dabbled. Art Bell. Read a few books here and there. Lurked here and there. I’m not an expert by any stretch. So, if this is way off the mark, please let me know. This is kind of random, but it has my mind reeling.

Yesterday, I was listening to an old Patreon episode of Small Town Murder, where the hosts review “Old Timey Murders.” For some reason, about 3/4 of the way through the episode, they switch from newspaper stories of murder to talk about UFOs. These guys are not into UFOs at all and even go out of their way to make fun of the UFO articles they review. But one of the articles they mention really caught my attention, and I can’t stop thinking about it.

It was an old newspaper article about UFOs. The publication date of the article was April 23, 1950, and it was titled “Flying Saucers Have Been Puzzling Observers Since Way Back in 1700.” The guys highlighted the excerpt of the story about Kenneth Arnold. Now, I’ve seen the stories about Kenneth Arnold and read many of them, but one of the quotes they read from the story took me by surprise. In the article, Arnold is quoted as saying, “It’s obvious to me that there must be some connection between the saucers and the mysterious submarines which are reported at times when the saucer reports are prevalent.” The mysterious submarines . . . what mysterious submarines?

Now, like I said, I’ve read quite a bit about Kenneth Arnold in the past, and I don’t recall ever seeing anything related to submarines. Given the details that we’ve seen from various sources over the last year or so about potential UAP activity that emanates from deep undersea, I was just shocked to hear that Arnold apparently saw activity with UAPs that included “mysterious submarines.”

I guess I turn to you as a community. Is this common knowledge that Kenneth Arnold spotted “mysterious submarines”? I did a search, and I couldn’t find anything using Google or DuckDuckGo that pointed to a connection between Kenneth Arnold and submarines. Searches for the article I mentioned above only returned one site, and I couldn’t access anything.

If anyone has this article or can access this article, I would love to read it. I would also love to know what everyone thinks about the submarine connection to Kenneth Arnold’s story. Is this well known, and I just missed it somehow?
