In the above-linked posting, Skepticl Believer suggests that Mick West concealed audio related to the USS Russel event in order to deceive Mick’s own viewers. Mr. Believer presents a short clip from a Mick West video, and a short clip of the original audio, to demonstrate that Mick omitted a portion relaying data on an object, including its distance of 1000 yards.
Dozens of critical comments about Mr. West and his video ensue. This is concerning because Mr. Believer does not even provide a link to Mick West’s video or even provide the title. Therefore, the bulk of the commentary was made without even reviewing the video in question. Mick has several videos on the incident, so it is unlikely that even a single person commenting knew which of his videos was even being discussed. This is not the level of critical analysis that is needed for the UAP community to be taken seriously. In that sense, Mick wins.
Mick has several videos and interviews regarding the USS Russell event, but the one in question is entitled “UAPTF Briefing Slide Shows Only Stars.” The video can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3VmVbo8xJQ&t=171s.
As suggested by the video’s title, the video demonstrates that a UAPTF slide show presented pictures of two UAP that were actually just stars (another example of UAP proponents failing to employ critical analysis). Mick demonstrates that the images were derived from frames of an onboard video, and he provides a direct link to the video.
To demonstrate that these images were in fact stars, Mick uses a sky-mapping program called Stolarium which requires an input of location, date, and time of day. This yields an interactive map of the night sky at any given time. To establish the time of day, Mick plays a clip of the onboard video in which a crewman states the exact military time. After the crewman states the time, Mick cuts the audio, emphasizes the stated time for his viewers, and proceeds to plug that time into Stolarium along with the other variables which he also establishes in his video.
In addition to the two stars shown in the UAPTF slide, Mick is able to identify five other stars in the video, resulting in a seven-star formation that can be easily located in Stolarium. Therefore, Mick conclusively demonstrates that the UAPTF slide, embarrassingly, shows two stars and not two UAP.
Equally as embarrassing, Skepticl Believer generated a lengthy posting about Mick West concealing important data. The posting was met with substantial fanfare from Anti-Mick-West redditers who clearly didn’t watch Mick’s video before commenting, and probably didn’t even read Mr. Believers entire posting. A simple review of Mick’s five minute video shows that the onboard audio regarding distance was completely irrelevant to proving that the two images were stars. Had he included the audio, it would cast no doubt on his conclusions whatsoever.
I emplore this community to put your thinking caps on, because many people are realizing that the media hype regarding UAP is a complete mischaracterization of the available evidence. Posting’s like Skepticl Believers, and the ensuing personal attacks on Mick West, do nothing for your cause other than preaching to the choir. A choir that is apparently not concerned with actual evidence, but instead with a desired conclusion that UAP are an actual phenomenon. I am still “on the fence,” so I invite commentary that actually provides or links to thoughtful analysis of Mick’s work, rather than relying on any attacks on his credibility or motives. Based on the commentary in the other posting, I am not hopeful.
