We always grapple with the topic like it’s just us, the citizens, and the government in this. There’s a third leg, the phenomenon itself. Who’s to say that they (the government) can’t detect changes in the phenomenon (blips of activity changing in location, frequency, invasiveness ..etc) based on what we citizens/government do/collectively pay attention to, that would lead them to think it may not be a good idea to aggravate some yet unknown action by an unknown force, by wide disclosure?
I’m not saying it’s the only factor, or if it’s a factor at all, but we all know ‘they’ are watching us in some capacity. It stands to reason that any common sense approach would take into account that any movement on that front might be watched too.
