So this has been rolling around in my head for a bit thinking about what would be the longer term repercussions if UFO’s are real. Possibly they could also be part of the reason for delaying disclosure of the UFO phenomenon.
Say for example the following are real and can be utilized. I won’t touch or Religion or “woo” as I think that’s been covered well. Vacuum or Zero Point Energy, craft capable of interstellar/interdimensional travel and Dr. Lacatski’s multidimensional folded UFO interior.
Zero Point energy would provide limitless power, manufacturing and agriculture costs drop exponentially as you no longer must add in the cost of powering systems or equipment. You would still have infrastructure costs, but it would reduce the associated costs to provide a product or foodstuffs massively. Travel could become essentially free and not just down the street but worldwide. You would make the whole world mobile. Add in a craft that can reach any point on the earth in minutes and now you have a whole population on the move. Don’t like where you live, don’t like the politics, or the neighbors, move. It’s not an issue to pick up and go. Want to get Pizza in Rome, be there in minutes.
Add in interstellar capability, and how many say “I’m out of here, man”? Go mine the asteroids. What happens to the price of gold or platinum when someone hits the mother load on an asteroid and dumps it back in the Earth based economy. It rains diamonds on Saturn, how can De Beers artificially maintain the price of them when someone can truck them in by the spaceship load. Does the economy move more to skills and services from a resource-based economy?
Which leads to, what would the role of traditional governments be? How do you maintain control of your airspace. Possibly you don’t have ‘permanent’ residents but temporary. Does sovereignty still count? What are you defending? Does it go the way of Snow Crash and humanity sorts itself out into pockets of like-minded people? Enclaves of left-handed sheepherders that eat soup on Sunday? No others need apply? Control and total loss of it, must have some people waking up in a sweat at night. How do you impose your personal views on a group of people (looking at you Congress and Supreme Court) when they just say “tootle-lo” and leave.
Houses the size of a backyard shed that are the size of a McMansion on the inside. Makes it kind of hard to show off now, doesn’t it. No lording the big house over your neighbors in the single-family ranch. How much land can be reclaimed to feed the world when you can reduce the footprint of housing and any building to basically nothing. A mall inside a phone booth. Green spaces everywhere with trees, and a cool off of the earth (Genghis Khan and the Black Death both had a similar effect) due to the profusion of plants absorbing carbon dioxide. What are your thoughts?
