Reflective spheroid, Death Valley 02-25-24

If anybody else was in the area of Mt. Perry (trail from Dante’s View) that Sunday and saw the spheroid, please DM me since I’d like to know if you saw where it went. (Honestly I’d like to be proven wrong and delete this post, lol.) Anyone returning from Perry would have seen it in front of them, along that lower connecting ridge, east of but very close to the trail. If it went anywhere, it would have gone down the slope towards the road.

I was on the ridgeline hiking towards Mt. Perry, recording video, when I saw this thing descending from the sky. It was a metallic reflective spheroid (not a perfect sphere IIRC) about a meter in diameter. At first I thought it was a balloon or some kind of dirigible drone, but: Where was the operator? Was the wind on the ridgeline really still enough for it to move like that? Why was it only about a meter in diameter? Where did it go?

I quickly realized it wasn’t a normal object. I was not 100% sure it was real, but i got it on video so it must have been. I stopped my video to take a still, but before I could catch it, I saw it sort of “melt away” into nothing. When I hiked past the spot where it looked like it had descended, there was nobody and nothing around.

The whole sighting had an odd quality to it. Something about the way it moved just seemed wrong. A high pressure system was moving out that day, and I thought there was too much wind for a balloon to move with that much control. If a balloon, it would have been very light. It was small and there didn’t seem to be a payload or anything. It couldn’t have been a drone because there was no means of propulsion, flying drones in a NP is prohibited, and somebody would have looked for it.

Anyway, if somebody saw it, please let me know! It’s just a few pixels wide on the video so I doubt there’s any point in doing anything with that. Just your basic reflective metal oblong spheroid. 🤷‍♂️
