Something whistleblowers may not know

There is a concept in the military known as compromised information. What does that mean? Basically, the government is reluctant to act if something gets out.

Let’s pretend: if Ross Coulthart says where the ship is and the next day he turns up dead or in jail, everyone will immediately associate the events and have a very high degree of confirmation. So they can’t do that, if the intention is to hide, after something is leaked, the only viable thing to do is ignore it. Doing anything to try to cover it up is adding fuel to the fire. So, oddly enough, showing your face is a protection.

There is no point in the government imposing a punishment if, on the other hand, this will bring a high degree of confidence to the statements of the whistleblowers, in fact, this is worse. Keeping quiet and letting people forget about it is the best way to deal with information that has already been compromised.

This is war strategy, threatening is not always about doing, sometimes it is about creating fear.
