Starlink multiple purposes?

So I had a thought last night. We live in a rather dark sky area and can easily see the nighttime sky. We watch satellites cross the sky. What if Starlink had dual purposes? What if on the side of the crafts that point outward towards space, there are additional sensors to watch for incoming objects? From the Starlink maps, there would be a gap on the north and south poles but perhaps there are other craft watching those regions. It always bothered me how the government had no real problem with a private company tossing up 4000+ more satellites that could add to the space clutter.
