Subject: Urgent Action Needed: Enhance Reporting and Investigation of Anomalous Events Observed by Commercial Pilots

I am writing to express my deep concern about the lack of a dedicated and effective system for commercial pilots to report anomalous events observed during flight. These events, exceeding 100 reports to air traffic controllers (ATC) alone, demand serious attention and investigation.

Currently, the options available to pilots for reporting such events are inadequate and fail to meet the critical need for transparency and accountability. Pilots often hesitate to report through existing channels due to concerns about being disbelieved or ridiculed, creating a significant underreporting bias.

Furthermore, the existing infrastructure is overburdened. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Air Traffic Controllers are already under immense pressure, and the agency apparently does not maintain a dedicated system for tracking and analyzing these reports. Additionally, the Airborne Object Identification and Management Synchronization Group (AOIMSG) appears to be solely archiving FAA reports, not actively investigating them.

This lack of a robust reporting and investigation system poses a significant threat to aviation safety and national security. Pilots are highly trained professionals with exceptional observational skills, and their reports deserve to be taken seriously. We cannot afford to ignore potential threats or dismiss potentially groundbreaking scientific discoveries simply due to inadequate reporting mechanisms.

Therefore, I urge you to take the following actions:

Establish a direct and safe reporting system dedicated to receiving and analyzing anomalous event reports from commercial pilots. This system should be independent of the ATC network and ensure anonymity for reporting pilots.

Allocate sufficient resources for the investigation of these reports, including dedicated personnel and expertise within the FAA or a separate agency.

Develop a clear and transparent process for communicating findings and ensuring that pilots receive feedback on their reports, regardless of the outcome of the investigation.

Hold public hearings to discuss the issue of anomalous events and the current state of reporting and investigation protocols.

Congress must take the lead in addressing this critical issue. We need a comprehensive and effective system to ensure that commercial pilots are heard, their reports are investigated thoroughly, and the American public is informed about potential threats and discoveries in our skies.

Please act now to enhance aviation safety, national security, and the pursuit of scientific truth.

Sincerely,
