I’m just trying to gauge the predominant belief on Reddit.

Most already know this but the ‘dark forest hypothesis’ is one answer to the Fermi paradox that suggests that that life is common in the universe, but resources are finite making ‘survival’ the most viable option. This, in turn means that all other species would likely be hostile to your survival and therefor should/must be destroyed first which also explains how silent these civilizations are due to their not wanting to be ‘seen’ by other species.

Benevolent alien contact is just that. Aliens have advanced so far that their needs have all been met and are therefor predominantly altruistic in nature.

Or do you find a blend of both with some species being ultra xenophobic while others seek to better the universe?
