I see a lot of posts or comments about keeping this topic (and subreddit) “non political.”
My issue with this is, since at least the 30s, the USG has been politicizing the problem by subsuming all info and research into national security and shrouding everything in secrecy.
Besides the fragments received through leaks or stories, the only tool the public has to ever get the full story is through the political system (unless a large group decides to mobilize outside of it)
For this reason, this topic is becoming of more political interest to voted-in constituents. Sure, for the sake of transparency, but we all know votes have something to do with it.
There’s tons of analysis and arguments to make, but all I’d like to say is that keeping politics out of it just isn’t an option. Seems to me to be an expression of discomfort by some people and not so much a good take
