Title. This has been on my mind lately for obvious reasons. Between society, governments, religion, corporations, and the NHIs themselves:

what do you hope will change once we all know and agree that we’re not alone? what do you expect will actually change once we all know and agree that we’re not alone?

In religion, for example, the Pope and the Catholic Church have already hedged their bets against a disclosure event. So when it happens, they will get to point to their previous statements and explorations and say, “See, we told you it was compatible with believing in God.”

Then for society, I think there’s a possibility everywhere will share a short, collective “cool, aliens,” and then go about their days and the news cycle like nothing happened, though that depends on how their interactions with us change.
