Where did the Mantis and Reptilian theories came from?

Every now and then I come across theories of who they are and where they are from, I see some people are really convinced about the existence of the Grays but does anyone know when the theories about the other possible races like Mantis and Reptilians started or where they came from? Gotta admit some stuff seems too far fetched but at this point I recognise I know nothing.
